Due to its dark themes of decay and death, the story is considered a classic of Conan lore while also cited by Howard scholars as one of his best tales. ![]() ![]() It is set in the pseudo-historical Hyborian Age and concerns Conan entering a lost city whose degenerate inhabitants are entangled in a murderous blood feud. ![]() Since you only voted on lists where you seem to be familiar with the topic, I don't think that should be too difficult? - The key thing you don't want to engage in, though, is spam and sock puppetry. ** Hint: Your votes will stand out even less as "suspicious" (read: self-promotional spam) to Goodreads librarians if you find other books to vote for/add to the lists you're voting on as well. (AND get all defensive and worked-up about it if called on their misbehavior.) You don't seem to be doing that. and then get a bunch of friends or flat-out sock puppet accounts to vote those books to the top of those lists. ![]() The speaker in this piece is near death, and she spends the four stanzas telling someone close to her what she wants her death to be like, and how she’d like them to handle it. That said, I think Wanda's comment was chiefly aimed at those authors who spam entire pages' worth of listopia lists with their books, often regardless of (or even in direct contradiction to) a list's topic. ‘Let Me Go’ by Christina Rossetti is a simple, moving poem told from the perspective of someone considering their impending death. Thanks for being a gentleman! Not all authors are so understanding, alas. Looks like you managed to remove it after all (sometimes it takes a while for an "unvote" to stick). ** edit ** I cant seem to remove it, but I've un-voted it." ![]() In which case I've removed "Memories with Maya" which is a hard science fiction novel with over 70% of the story set in Bombay - India. The story also focuses on the eternal topic of love at first sight, and it becomes clear that it is everyone’s personal business. For example, the description of friendship between Lori and Sarah is a great example of female friendship. The main characters seem to be quite similar, both internally and externally, to the characters of the film “Love, Rosie”. It is possible to suggest that the movie will be met with excitement and positive feedback since the spectators received the opportunity to better understand their own feelings and relationships. This story shocks and inspires, making people believe in themselves, those around them, and love that they are all trying to find. Watching the proposed movie, the viewers would grow up and change with them with the main heroes. ![]() “One Day in December” captures from the first sight as it makes one feel all the experiences of the characters, such as pain, loss, joy, love, and gaining. The story of two lovers constantly keeps in suspense and drives in circles. ![]() ![]() ![]() They were onihomihan, brothers of the wolf. ![]() The link between them was even stronger than that. That was where they had become blood brothers. You’re an Indian, aren’t you? Shouldn’t you know these things?” That’s why they call this area the Four Corners.” We might’ve even strayed over the line into Colorado or Utah. “Are we in Arizona or New Mexico?” Matt Bodine asked with a puzzled frown. The novelist's name was Larry McMurtry, a Texan who grew up in cattle country and wrote about small towns and aging cowboys. His publisher felt such antics limited his audience and pigeonholed him as, well, a minor regional novelist. The plot was fast-paced enough that it went by quickly but was easy to keep up with. I actually managed to go through the book in a day or two. An ancient evil awakens and starts ripping people apart, drinking blood and eating their innards. Under the Volcano takes place in Quauhnahuac, a little town not far from Mexico City. Far from the popular notion that Malcolm Lowry’s masterpiece is merely “about alcoholism,” Under the Volcano remains a dead-serious bereavement of the insurmountable space that can separate two people sitting side by side. Though it is resolutely a Modernist work, replete with countless esoteric references and ambiguous plot movements, the implications of the work continue to startle me with their relevance to the Digital Age. Under the Volcano is mesmerizing, brokenhearted, almost infinitely discursive, a mescal-sodden, naval-gazing dirge. Since then, I have found myself continually pulling the book off the shelf, returning again and again to its sad, pristinely lyrical pages, as the seasons change and the state of the world remains tumultuous as ever. ![]() ![]() ![]() Last year, fighting the anxiety and listlessness that seems to have become the norm of our overstimulated era, I read Under the Volcanofor the first time. ![]() ![]() The only place that seemed truly different was owned by a man named Mr. ![]() I hoped that in walking around after dark I might witness a murder, but for the most part our neighbors just sat in their living rooms, watching TV. Our next house was less than a mile away, and the short journey would hardly merit tears or even good-byes, for that matter.
